Carrying His Name, Carrying His Love: The Birth of Paisley Cameron Girvin

by Thin Blue Line USA September 19, 2025

On August 19, 2025, light broke through the darkness with the birth of Paisley Cameron Girvin. Her name carries with it the honor of her father, Officer Cameron Girvin, who gave his life in service with the Virginia Beach Police Department just six months earlier. That same day, Police Officer Chris Reese was also taken, a loss felt deeply across the department and community. In the midst of grief, Paisley’s birth brought a light forward—proof that while Cameron’s sacrifice will never silence his presence, his love and courage live on through his daughter, and the bond he shared with Officer Reese will forever echo in the legacy they leave behind.

A Childhood Shaped by Service

From the time Cameron was five years old, he told his parents he wanted to be a police officer. Halloween costumes, school essays, and daily play often revolved around wearing the badge. His parents remember a caring, energetic boy who was always looking for ways to help others. Raised in a family of civil servants—firefighters, police, and 911 dispatchers—Cameron’s calling was woven into the fabric of who he was. His dream never wavered. He studied criminal justice, interned with the Gates Police Department, and worked with Ocean City Police before finding his home at Virginia Beach PD.

A Light in the Department

Cameron’s fellow officers admired his instincts, his heart, and his ability to bring joy into even the hardest days. Many say he had a gift for spotting danger before anyone else—a talent that led to countless guns and drugs being taken off the streets. But what they remember most is his smile. It was a smile that lit up a room, calmed a partner on a tough shift, and reminded friends and family of the goodness in life. It’s that smile that lives on in stories told at precincts, in classrooms where his teachers still recall him, and now in the features of his newborn daughter.

A Family and Community United

Cameron was more than an officer; he was a husband, a son, and a soon-to-be father. He and his wife were high school sweethearts, bound together by love, faith, and a shared vision of the life they were building.
Since his passing, both his family and the wider community have worked tirelessly to ensure his legacy continues. His precinct created a shadow box in his honor. Fundraisers, memorial services, and even tattoos shared among his brothers in blue have become lasting symbols of remembrance. A scholarship in his name will help future criminal justice students chase their dreams, just as Cameron did. His hometown in New York is planning a memorial across from his high school, a place where future generations will learn of his sacrifice. And through it all, his wife and daughter have been surrounded by love—from fellow officers, from neighbors, and from strangers moved by his story.

A Legacy Carried Forward

With the cry of a newborn, hope entered a family that has carried so much sorrow. Paisley Cameron Girvin will grow up hearing about her father’s courage, his kindness, and his passion for serving others. She will know his smile through the stories of those who loved him and the community that will never let his name fade.
Cameron’s parents said it best: “We told him to follow his dream, and he died doing what he loved.”
Today, that dream and that love live on—not only in his daughter, but in every life touched by his service.
