Police Officer Rogelio Santander succumbed to his injuries from a gunshot wound on April 25, 2018. He and two other officers attempted to apprehend a shoplifter. The subject then opened fire on all three officers. Officer Santander died the following morning. The other officers were also wounded but survived.
Officer Santander served with the Dallas Police Department for three years.
Our Give Blue Fundraiser began shortly after the news of this tragedy. We send our deepest thanks to everyone that took part and continues to wear their Thin Blue Line Bracelet in honor of Officer Santander.
A total donation of $9,115.58 was donated to the Assist the Officer Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, as requested by the Dallas Police Department. This donation will honor Officer Santander's selfless service and sacrifice.
“He showed us it doesn’t matter what part of town you lived in or who you are. If you can set your mind to it, with no excuses, you’re going to achieve it,” said Romero. “He did it and that’s why we loved him because he did it.” - Oscar Romero, Santander's former soccer coach, NBC 5 - KXAS
God bless you, Rogelio Santander. May you rest in peace.
