A North Carolina police officer showed the healing power of a hug.
"When I was pulling him in tight, the only thing that I said to him was that 'you're OK' and 'it's over,” - Dan Hicks
Raleigh Police Officer Dan Hicks was on his way home from work when he spotted a man on the ledge of an overpass on Interstate 440. In a few words, Hicks managed to persuade the man to get off the ledge. The interaction was recorded on surveillance footage, and Hicks had no idea he would get recognition for it. This selfless act saved this mans life. Hundreds of cars drove past and not even one person stopped to assist this man.
The unnamed man received mental health help afterwards. Stories like these remind us that there is help available. Hicks is a valuable member of the Thin Blue Line and we salute him for his heroic actions.
